91Ó°ÊÓ Museum of Art offers public lectures, artist talks, and conversations both in-person and virtually throughout the academic year. Guest speakers include Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Scholars & Artists such as Antonio Martorell, Denise Bookwalter, and Nicole Cromartie, as well as 91Ó°ÊÓ faculty, students, and special guests.
Author Talk: Tiphanie Yanique

Join a conversation about the intersection of art and literature with novelist, poet and short story writer Tiphanie Yanique. Moderated by Victoria Brown, Associate Professor of English at 91Ó°ÊÓ.
About the author: Tiphanie Yanique is an award-winning novelist, poet, essayist, and short story writer from the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is the author of the acclaimed novels Monster in the MiddleÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýLand of Love and Drowning, as well as the poetry collection Wife and the story collection How to Escape from a Leper Colony. Her work has earned numerous honors, including the Bocas Prize for Caribbean Poetry, the Center for Fiction's Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize, and recognition as a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree. ​
In addition to her literary work, Yanique has written for The New York Times,ÌýThe Wall Street Journal, and O Magazine, and is an advocate for the Caribbean diaspora. She is a professor of creative writing at Emory University in Atlanta. ​

Artist Talk: La Vaughn Belle

Multidisciplinary artist La Vaughn Belle, Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Artist, shares insights into how history informs her art and practice.
Through exploring the material culture of coloniality, Belle creates narratives from fragments and silences. Working in a variety of disciplines, her practice includes painting, installation, photography, writing, video, and public interventions. In this artist talk, Belle delves into her practice, highlighting works currently on view: The House that Freedoms Built installation which explores the history and legacy of colonialism in the Caribbean and photo series Swarm featured in the exhibition, To Imagine a Home at 91Ó°ÊÓ Museum of Art.
